There is something deeply disturbing about being Black in the world we live in - and that is the realisation of how fragile our very existence is.The realisation that, regardless of your social status, the very fact, nature or duration of your existence is not something that you have control over as a Black person.

The most loving question one can hear is: “Can I read this for you?” (Seriously, go argue with the birds). In the age of screen time; TV, PC and Phone, reading is also silence time. A solo experience away from all the other people on social media. It's an experience of aloneness. But what about reading aloud. Reading out aloud connects you to your other-selves and other people. Reading-out-loud is normally associated with the horror of Primary school class reading or bedtime stories. But it should not be the past-time for children alone.

Here I suspect is where we ought to look, for it is where the rain began to beat us. When we do, it will become evident that, twenty-five years after independence, Black people remain excluded from the circuits of knowledge and cultural production in South Africa. Similarly, we have as a logical consequence no role in the determination of our own society’s inter-subjective meanings, and its implicit norms constitutive of social practices.

Racial capitalism does not need all Black people to work. In fact, it requires that there always be a large supply of unemployed which pressures the people who are employed to accept low wages and poor working conditions else they will be replaced.

Blood Psalms is an epic series based on ancient African mythology. Currently shooting in the Eastern Cape and Gauteng, Blood Psalms chronicles the rise to power of a fierce teenaged princess, Zazi (Bokang Phelane from Keeping Score, Emoyeni), who battles a world-ending prophecy to navigate her people through ancient curses, long-standing tribal vendettas, and the wrath of the Gods.

Political Science, as taught in South Africa, reflected a critical gap of a ‘lack’ (persisting to date) of most insights of ‘black’ Africans. My special interest, was expressly on ‘black’ South Africans (located in Africa or beyond in the diaspora).
